End-of-the-Year Finale Event: Clean Out the Closet!

Kosta Browne Tasting

Gettin' More for Your Money!

Scenario: you're going to dinner at a friend's place and you've been asked to bring the wine. What do you do? a) Panic!!! b) Call your favorite Wine Club co-chair at the last minute to ask for advice; or c) use the knowledge you gained from Wine Club to confidently select an awesome wine that doesn't break the bank. If you picked option a) or, even worse , option b) (just kidding! we love to hear from you) then this event is for you! So come on down to Harper and explore the wonderful world of value wines with us during this informal on-campus tasting!


Wente Vineyards Wine Tasting and Benefit

Location: Schuba's Tavern

Where wine and music meet to benefit charity! Karl Wente, 5th generation winemaker at Wente Vineyards, will be introducing his family’s wines to us at the beginning of the evening. Please stay on afterwards for a concert benefiting Rock for Kids, a charity that provides music lessons and instruments for inner city kids ($12 per ticket).


2nd Year Appreciation Night at Bin 36

Cakebread Wine Tasting

Dennis Cakebread, Director of Sales for Cakebread Cellars and son of Jack Cakebread, the winery's founder, will be joining us from Napa Valley to discuss and sample some of his highly acclaimed wines. BYOB Dinner at Efe's Cafe

Which wines pair well with the likes of hummus, musakka, and kebabs? You bring the wine, we’ll provide the dinner and belly dancers. We’ll meet at a wine store beforehand to select a bottle each to bring to dinner at Efes (Turkish cuisine). Your faithful co-chairs will be around to provide wine selection support for those who would like it.


Riesling Tasting

Taylor-Fladgate Port Wine Tasting

Adrian Bridge, CEO of the famous Fladgate Partnership, which represents such iconic port labels as Taylor-Fladgate and Fonseca will be taking us though a tasting of 8 ports, as well as the first ever port wine cocktail - Croft Pink. Robledo Family Winery Tasting

The Wine Club is excited to introduce a new self-led wine-tasting opportunity to our calendar this year: Robledo Family Winery. Robledo is the first Mexican-owned winery in Napa, is family-owned and operated, and has produced a variety of award-winning wines. We hope you can join us for a relaxing evening of socializing and tasting. We will be enjoying Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Blanc, Tempranillo, a Red Blend, Cabernet, and Moscato.


Clean Out The Closet

Clean Out the Closet is one of those events that all of the Wine Club Veterans know not to miss. This event runs just like an OTBN, but WE bring the wine. We will be opening bottles from previous events that were chosen for thematic events, but sadly were not opened. Finally, those great selections get their chance in the sun and can be enjoyed by the wine club membership.


Sauternes Tasting Event

Come and discover the sweetest treasures from Bordeaux's wine region. Chateau Coutet and Chateau Guiraud will give an introductory presentation and tasting in the magic of Sauternes, covering everything from vineyard management to business decisions associated with running a winery!


Blend Your Own Wine

At this event, you can create your very own Cabernet Sauvignon-based wine blends using Bordeaux wine varietals from grapes grown in Napa Valley. Mix and match Merlot, Petit Verdot, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon to create your own unique wine. And if you're up to a greater challenge, try and decode the blend in the "Mystery Wine".

Sue Kim-Drohomyrecky is a sommelier and principal of the Spring Restaurant Group (which includes James Beard-nominated restaurant Spring, Custom House and Green Zebra). Wine Sensory Event

In Wine Sensory, we are going to test how well your sense of smell is linked with your taste buds. You are tasked with identifying 36 different scents found in wine. By recognizing these scents, you'll strengthen your scent memory and be able to describe wines like a professional. (We hope.)


Explore French Wines at The House of Glunz

The Chicago Booth Wine Club is excited to introduce a new wine-tasting venue to our calendar this year: The House of Glunz in Old Town. Founded in 1888, the House of Glunz is Chicago's oldest wine merchant, and has been family-owned and operated for the last 121 years. Barbara Glunz herself has chosen a flight of 6 French wines for us to taste with the guidance of her knowledgable staff. We hope you can join us!

Our yearly tradition for ringing in the new school year is to invite you all to our homes for some drinks and food. Your co-chairs have paired off and are hosting 3 different events next week to celebrate how wine can pair with some unusual (and mysterious) cuisine.


South American Wine Tasting

Spend an evening with the Wine Club as we learn to appreciate the intense wines that hail from South America, specifically Chile, Argentina, and Uruguay. This presentation and tasting of five wines will focus on educating and guiding members to a deeper understanding of the region’s wine.

Open That Bottle Night

The roofdeck of MDA is one of our favorite spots for an OTBN event, with indoor and outdoor wet bars, lawn and patio seating, food and music... not to mention wine! Everyone brings a bottle, try as many as you like, and vote for your favorites... prizes to the winners!


Wine 101

Wine 101 is an introductory event at the beginning of the fall quarter that is exclusively for new members. This year's event will be hosted by wine expert Don Sritong from Just Grapes in the West Loop.
